SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol used to connect to a web server and execute different tasks using a command line. The protocol is preferred by many expert users, due to the fact that the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it may not be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access can be employed for lots of things with regards to the type of website hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file if the web server allows it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH may be used for pretty much anything - you could install software or restart particular services like the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is employed mainly with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients that allow you to use the protocol if your laptop or computer is using a different Operating System too. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port although a lot of providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Hosting

SSH access is featured with all Linux hosting which we offer. With some of them, it is included by default, while with others it's an optional upgrade that you can add with just a few mouse clicks from your web hosting Control Panel. You can get SSH access from the section dedicated to it where you will also find the information you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You will be able to select the password which you will use and, if necessary, you will be able to modify it with several mouse clicks from the same place. All the commands that could be used with our shared plans are listed within a help article along with relevant instances. If the SSH access function is allowed for your account, you'll also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

SSH access is provided by default with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you could include it through the hosting Control Panel if required - even only for the current month. In any case, you are able to activate and de-activate the feature with a single click from the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same spot, you will see the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box in which you can input the password that you would like to use, as it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better protection, you may also change it as often as you want. A complete list of the commands which can be executed in a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and several examples. An extra function after SSH access is allowed will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports such connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Hosting

You shall be able to use SSH to control your content no matter which Linux virtual private servers you pick when you sign up, due to the fact that all our packages come with this function as standard. You won't need to include or allow anything manually - as soon as your website hosting server is ready and you receive the Welcome email with the login details, you can connect and begin working on your Internet sites or any software that you would like to set up and run on the hosting server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and because the account shall be separated from all of the other accounts in the physical hosting server, you shall be able to do anything you'd like without any restrictions. You can set up any app that you need and which will run on a Linux-based hosting server, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and handle your files and databases easily and quickly.
