SPF, which is an acronym for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail protection system, which is employed to verify if an email message was sent by a certified server. Using SPF protection for a given domain will stop the forging of email addresses generated with the domain. In layman's terms: activating this attribute for a domain name generates a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) containing the IP addresses of the servers which are permitted to send e-mails from mailboxes using the domain. As soon as this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. When a new e-mail message is sent, the first DNS server it uses tests whether it originates from an official server. In the event it does, it is forwarded to the destination address, however if it does not come from a server listed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it's rejected. In this way nobody will mask an email address then make it look as if you're sending spam. This method is also called email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Hosting

If you host your domain names in a hosting account with us and we manage the email addresses for them, you are able to enable SPF protection for them with a couple of clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. This service is accessible in a section of its own where you'll be able to view which domains are currently secured. For those that are not, you can activate the SPF protection solution and configure various things at the same time - the hostnames of the mail servers that are permitted to send messages from your mailboxes, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, and even to create a rule that messages can be sent only when your domains have our MX records. The last option is the most secure one, but it can be used when we manage the e-mails for your domains and you're not using a different email supplier. The newly created records will propagate within a day and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in an email by using your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server account from us, you'll be able to protect your emails by enabling the SPF protection service for every domain hosted in your account with only a couple of mouse-clicks. This is done from the Emails section of the Hepsia Control Panel which is provided with the semi-dedicated accounts and even if you have no previous practical experience with these kinds of matters, you won't have any difficulties to enable the protection. The only things that you will have to do will be to pick a domain name from a drop-down menu then type in the mail server hostname and IPv4 or IPv6 address. As soon as the updated record propagates, messages from your email addresses will be delivered around the world only if they are sent from that specific server. In case your email addresses are taken care of by our company and not by some third-party supplier, you can also activate an option for email messages to be sent only when the domain features our MX records and this would be the safest option.
