If you want to direct a domain that you have to some other domain name or subdomain, one way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being pointed loses all of its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it's pointed to. This way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be pointed to the Internet site that you've created, but it will also appear in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because this type of a record created for the main domain name makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which our company offers with each and every Linux hosting, will allow you to set up CNAME records for every single domain name or subdomain hosted inside the account with just a few mouse clicks. If you aren't confident how to go about it, you should check the video tutorial available in the CP, read the comprehensive Help article on the subject, or you can simply contact us and we can assist you 24/7, though it is unlikely that you'll experience any difficulties as all it takes to create a new CNAME record is to pick a domain/subdomain, type in the hostname you're redirecting to, and save the change. The new record will be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records enables you to have better control of your domains and site content and our system is simple and intuitive enough to allow people who have no previous experience to create such records with ease.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with every single one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will permit you to create a CNAME record without difficulty. If you want to create a private URL for your emails, to redirect a domain name to a subdomain inside the account or to forward a domain address to another company and use some third-party service that they provide, it won't require more than 3 mouse clicks to set up such a record. All DNS records for the domain addresses and subdomains hosted within the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so once you're there, all you will have to do will be to select the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then enter the actual record text. For your convenience, you can see a short video inside the CP about how to set up a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that is available in the DNS records section.
